FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Radford Army Ammunition Plant announces its new web site for the Installation Restoration Program

RADFORD ARMY AMMUNITION PLANT, Radford, Virginia — The Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RFAAP) announces its new web site at www.envnet.org/rfaapirp for the Installation Restoration Program (IRP). The web site was created in an effort to make RFAAP IRP information more readily available and engage the public.

The IRP is a Department of Defense program implemented at U.S. military bases to identify, investigate, and clean up contamination resulting from past operations. Through the IRP, former disposal activities and releases at RFAAP are evaluated and addressed.

The RFAAP IRP web site provides a variety of information about the ongoing environmental restoration program at RFAAP, such as the installation action plan, draft project schedule, site maps and photos, fact sheets, and information about two additional vehicles used to inform and engage the public: RFAAP’s Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) and information repository.

In 1998, the RAB was formed as a forum for exchange of information and partnership among citizens, RFAAP, and regulatory agencies. RFAAP provides information to and solicits comments/concerns from the RAB regarding site cleanup activities. RAB meetings occur bi-monthly with six meetings per year. Anyone in the community interested in becoming an RAB member should contact Mr. Jim McKenna, the RFAAP Restoration Program Manager.

In September 1999, RFAAP set up an information repository, which is available for public review at the Christiansburg Branch of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library. The repository is a collection of documents relating to RFAAP’s permitting activity and corrective action. It provides much of the same information provided on the web site as well as more in-depth technical documents about site activities.

For more information, please contact Mr. Jim McKenna, RFAAP Restoration Program Manager, at (540) 639-8641.
