What is the Installation Restoration Program?

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Office of Environmental Cleanup oversees the Defense Environmental Restoration Program (DERP).

The Army's cleanup initiative under DERP is the Installation Restoration Program (IRP). Its goal is to clean up previously contaminated land at active Army sites, prioritizing threats to human health and legal compliance.

At Radford Army Ammunition Plant, the IRP identifies, investigates, and cleans up contamination from past operations. For more details, view the IRP Status Report Update.

The mission of DoD's environmental cleanup program is to protect the environment while reducing risks to troops, families, and communities from pollution due to past practices.
