Site Tour - Jim McKenna, Jerry Redder
The site visit commenced at 6:16 p.m. Mr. Jim McKenna and Mr. Jeff Parks led a site tour and discussed planned remedial activities for Building 4343 at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RFAAP). The RAB was taken to the Building 4343. Mr. McKenna discussed the plating operations that occurred in the past at Building 4343 and the results of site investigations, which identified cadmium as the primary chemical of concern in soil. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved RCRA Facility Investigation/ Corrective Measures Study Report.
The clean-up remedy (soil excavation and offsite disposal) for Building 4343 was then discussed. The workplan for the remediation portion of the project is currently being drafted by Shaw E & I. This plan is scheduled for implementation next year. The areas delineated for excavation were identified for the RAB and contaminated soil disposal requirements were outlined. Copies of site reports are on file at the RFAAP information repository (Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library, Christiansburg, VA).
Closing Remarks
The site visit was concluded at 7:30 p.m. Next RAB meeting is scheduled for September 15, 2005.
